On the weekend Alex Peroni showed a clean pair of heels to his opposition in his awesome CRG Piccolo chassis powered by a Concept Karting Comer W80 engine. The Titles were held at the Orielton Raceway, Hobart and Alex won the Cadets Class convincingly in both heats, the pre-final and final. As this race meeting also incorporated the first round of the Tasmanian Statewide Series, Alex’s great effort earned him good points towards that series.Alex Peroni - Cadets Class

Paul Faulkner has convincingly won the 2009 Bathurst 944 Porsche Challenge. After disappointingly qualifying in 6th position, he progressively fought his way towards the front of the grid. In the last heat he blasted into the lead on lap one and then proceeded to drive away from the opposition at will. He attributes his speed on the weekend to the hours of work spent on developing his suspension set up.

The following is a statement released by the VKA / AKA on February 20, 2009.

The Victorian Karting Association (VKA) would like to advise that the rescheduled date for the 2009 Victorian Open Sprint Kart Championships, to be hosted by the VKA and the Eastern Lions Kart Club at the Hume International Raceway, will be May 8 – 10.

Competitors who had entered for the original date of February 13 – 15 will need to confirm their entry for the rescheduled date with the VKA office either via email vka@bigpond.net.au or fax 03 5449 6442 only.

This will be in the form of a notification, not a new entry form as the original entry form will be used, the only alteration being the date of event.

Should a competitor who had entered to compete on the original date not be able to attend on May 8 – 10 they should also contact the VKA office requesting a refund on their entry and tyres fees via email vka@bigpond.net.au or fax on 03 5449 6442 only.

The rescheduled date is considered to be a new race meeting therefore allowing further entries into those listed classes listed below. All classes will be required to meet the minimum number of entries of eight (8) to form a field.

The closing date for entries to be confirmed or received is Friday April 17.

The following is a statement released by the VKA / AKA on February 19, 2009.

The Victorian Karting Association Inc (VKA) and the Australian Karting Association Inc (AKA) wish to remove any misunderstanding existing amongst karters in relation to the postponement of the 2009 Victorian Open Sprint Kart Championships.

The safety of the karting community is of paramount importance to the VKA and the AKA.

The postponement of the Championships was brought about by force majeure caused by the horrific bushfires and the resultant and tragic loss of life in Victoria.

On the preceding Saturday and the Sunday information available from emergency service organisations was quite limited and at the time it was thought that there was no immediate threat to the event. No-one, at the time, was in a position to anticipate the scale of the tragedy that was to unfold.

As information became available the situation was reviewed and this review led to the proper decision being made to postpone the event. The authority for such decision comes from Rule 11.09 of the 2009 Australian Karting Manual. In all of the circumstances, the AKA unconditionally supports the decision made by the VKA.

Any competitor seeking a refund of entry and tyre fees should contact the VKA via email on vka@bigpond.net.au or phone on 03 5449 6362.

Whilst the VKA and the AKA regret any inconvenience caused to karters, it cannot and will not compromise the safety of competitors, pit crew, officials and the general public.

The VKA will be selecting a date to reschedule the Event to during its next State Karting Council meeting, to be held this evening (February 19), and will announce the chosen date tomorrow (February 20).
